Incident Occurred on Flight from Charlotte to Newark
A New Jersey woman has filed a lawsuit against American Airlines after being sexually assaulted by a stranger during a flight. The alleged assault took place on August 26, 2022, on an overnight flight from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Newark Liberty International Airport.
According to a federal court filing last week, the woman fell asleep shortly after takeoff. She woke up to find the assailant’s left arm inside her pants and his right hand forcing her hand onto his genitals. The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, was seated between a friend and the unknown passenger during the two-hour flight.
The complaint states that the attacker covered himself and the victim with a black puffer jacket and digitally penetrated her while she was asleep, leaving her in a state of “shock and panic” upon waking. He then reportedly attempted full penetration, achieving it partially before she managed to push him away and he returned to his seat.
The lawsuit accuses American Airlines of failing to prevent or address the assault adequately.

Una mujer de Nueva Jersey ha presentado una demanda contra American Airlines tras ser agredida sexualmente por un extraño durante un vuelo. El supuesto ataque ocurrió el 26 de agosto de 2022 en un vuelo nocturno de Charlotte, Carolina del Norte, al Aeropuerto Internacional Newark Liberty.
Según documentos presentados en un tribunal federal la semana pasada, la mujer se quedó dormida poco después del despegue. Se despertó para encontrar el brazo del agresor dentro de sus pantalones y su mano forzando la suya sobre sus genitales. La mujer, cuyo nombre no se revela, estaba sentada entre una amiga y el pasajero desconocido durante el vuelo de dos horas.
La demanda alega que el atacante cubrió a ambos con una chaqueta acolchada negra y la penetró digitalmente mientras ella dormía, dejándola en un estado de “shock y pánico” al despertar. Luego, el extraño intentó penetrarla completamente, logrando hacerlo parcialmente antes de que ella pudiera empujarlo y él regresara a su asiento.
La demanda acusa a American Airlines de no tomar medidas adecuadas para prevenir o abordar el ataque.
