Salmonella Outbreak Tied to Cucumbers Affects New York; Second Most Cases in the U.S.
A salmonella outbreak connected to cucumbers is affecting 31 states across the U.S., with New York reporting the second-highest number of cases. According to the CDC, 449 people have been affected, with 125 requiring hospitalization.
New York has reported 57 cases, trailing behind Pennsylvania, which has 60 cases. Florida follows with 52 cases, and Virginia with 43.
The outbreak is linked to cucumbers irrigated with untreated water from a Florida farm. Although the contaminated products have been removed from shelves, the CDC advises taking precautions such as washing fruits and vegetables under running water, regularly washing hands, and keeping produce away from raw meat.
Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain, which typically appear between 6 hours and 6 days after consuming contaminated food. Recovery usually occurs within 4 to 7 days.

El brote está relacionado con pepinos regados con agua no tratada de una granja en Florida. Los síntomas de salmonela incluyen diarrea, fiebre y dolor abdominal, y generalmente aparecen entre 6 horas y 6 días después de consumir el alimento contaminado. La recuperación suele ocurrir en un período de 4 a 7 días.
