Air Crash in Brazil: Voepass Passenger Plane Crashes in Sao Paulo; No Survivors Confirmed
A Voepass passenger plane with 62 people onboard crashed today in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Authorities have confirmed there were no survivors.
The incident occurred in Vinhedo, where local officials reported that everyone on the flight perished. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva observed a moment of silence during a conference, stating, “It appears that everyone died.”
The nearby city of Valinhos, which assisted in rescue operations, also confirmed no survivors. The flight, which departed from Cascavel, Paraná, at 11:56 AM, was en route to Guarulhos, São Paulo.
Valinhos’ government reported a joint operation with 20 personnel, including three municipal guard vehicles and one Civil Defense vehicle, to aid the crash site.
Authorities have sealed off the residential area where the crash occurred. Journalists observed official vehicles, including ambulances, arriving at the scene.
The aircraft, an ATR 72 twin-engine turboprop, was similar to the model that crashed in Nepal in 2023. GloboNews aired footage showing a large fire and smoke emanating from the wreckage. Additional images depicted the plane spiraling downward before impact.
The Vinhedo security secretary noted that the plane did not hit any buildings and they do not believe the crash caused any injuries on the ground. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
